Instructor Training CarYou must also be able to provide two character references and you must be able to read a number plate at 90 feet (i.e. 23 feet more than required for the L test) with glasses if normally worn.

Certain criminal convictions (if not spent) may also exclude you from becoming a driving instructor.

What is ORDIT?

ORDIT logo
ORDIT (the Official Register of Driving Instructor Training) was set up by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA, the Government body that controls and regulates driving instruction in the UK) with the support of the major driving schools and trade associations:

DIA – Driving Instructors Association
MSA – Motor Schools Association
NJC – National Joint Council of ADI’s
DISC – Driving Instructor Scottish Council

ORDIT was set up to protect the public from substandard instructor training by setting a ‘minimum’ standard of competence’s for training providers. ORDIT is managed by the DSA and members failing to maintain the required standard may be removed (or feel compelled to resign) from ORDIT.
