Semi Intensive Course Information

As a driving instructor I personally do not advise people to try and condense their entire driver training course into one week. I believe people should learn at a steady pace and incorporate lots of private practice so they are already fairly experienced and able to handle the many different challenges they will face once they have passed their test.

However, I appreciate that due to other commitments such as going away to University or college exams, or even an urgent requirement for independence, a semi intensive course can sometimes be the only viable option.


Please note: Pupils must have already passed the theory test before booking an intensive course. If you would like a test at the end of the course, it is recommended that you book the practical driving test at least 1 month in advance of the required start date. All pupils would be required to complete a 2 hour initial assessment lesson to enable the instructor to work out a lesson plan, based around their test date.

Intensive courses can consist of between 10 and 40 hour’s tuition over a period of 1/2 wks or 3/6 wks, depending on the individual requirements of the pupil.

Intensive driving courses are available in Johnstone, Paisley, Renfrew, Erskine, Linwood, Renfrewshire, Barrhead, Penilee, Hillington and surrounding areas.

Each driving course will include:

• One-to-one tuition
• Full Access To Our Online Theory & Hazard Perception Training if required
• Mock driving tests
• Full use of the instructor’s car for the test (T&C’S Apply)
• Progress reports
• Training Dvd

Below are details of my courses and a guide to which course may suit you best.

15 Hour Course

Ideal for those who are nearing test standard and who just need a short burst of lessons prior
to the test. It is also ideal for those who have had an attempt at the test, but haven’t had
any lessons since.
The in-car training is 15 hours on a one pupil to one instructor basis.
(Driving test is not included).

20 Hour Course

Ideal for those who have had at least 15 Hrs training
The course can be spread over 3/6 weeks to suit you and thee instructors schedule.
The in-car training is 20 hours on a one pupil to one instructor basis.
(Driving test is not included).

30 Hour Course

Ideal for those who have had at least 10 Hours training.
The course can be spread over 3/6 weeks to suit you and thee instructors schedule.
The in-car training is on a one pupil to one instructor basis.
(Driving test not included)


40 Hour Course

Ideal for those who have little or no experiance.
The course can be spead over 4/6 weeks to suit you and the instructors schedule.
The in-car training is on a one pupil to one instructor basis.
(Driving Test Not Included)

Complete Package
45 Hour Beginners Course:

The Course is tailored to suit the individual, it is ideal for those who have no experience. The course can be spread over 6/12 Wks Semi Intensive to suit you and the instructor’s schedule.The course includes everything you need to pass both theory and practical tests,Once you have passed the theory test then the driving test would usually be organized to take place at the end of the course depending on your personal preference. (I.e. At least one month in advance).

This is down to the individuals progress and motivation.
If this is the case the candidate will be offered additional training to bring them up to the required standard at an additional cost to the pupil

Private Practice

Unless the learner is at an advanced stage nearing test standard then you are doing them no favours taking them into busy traffic. If you find you are stuck at a junction and the learner is stalling the car the question you should be asking yourself, are we in the wrong place at the wrong time? If not enough time has been spent on the basics then problems will arise later on in the training, check with the learner, ask what they covered on their last lesson, speak to the instructor, get advice on the best way to go about teaching a learner.

How Robins Driving School Can Help With Private Practice

1. If like most learners you want to keep the cost of tuition down and still progress towards
test standard, that’s why we encourage private practice whether it be with mum dad
or friends well planned private practice can put you on the road to test success.

2. I provide free pictorial handouts to pupils, which private practice sessions can be
based around. They provide simple, step-by-step guides to maneuvers, road procedure etc.

3. I monitor pupils' progress. I will enter what has taken
place during lessons and the learner enters what has been practiced privately.
This helps keep all parties informed about the progress being made through the
recommended syllabus.
